Friday, I forget.
Saturday, I slept in until 10 AM. Then...I did stuff, can't really remember. Oh yes. Lots of greeting card shopping. That is time consuming because I am picky and cheap.
I also comparison shopped for a discman:
Target -- large assortment, prices OKaaay
I spent a great deal of time in their discman aisle. Another woman and I became friends. She was looking for a discman for her son for xmas.
Many discman choices, more variety than anywhere else actually. But all the pretty ones had vague advertising info.
"SKIP PROTECTION!!!" (how many seconds?)
"JOG-PROOF!!" (does that mean skip protection? how many seconds?)
"MP3 AND RADIO!" (OK, but what's the frickin' skip protection!?)
"DOES THE HOOKEY-POOKEY!!" (??)
Some of the more expensive ones looked clunky. Not good for skating. There was one advertised as slim but again, nothing about skip protection seconds.
Finally fed up, I left the woman (I'm invited to her wedding, nice lady), and on to:
Best Buy -- smaller variety, better prices??
I was not pleased.
Walmart -- (giving up)
I met John, a Chabot College dropout. He unlocked the discman case for me and very patiently chatted with me while I complained about how my current discman skips when I skate. He tried to help me also, but knew about as much about discmans as I did. So I ended up holding three -- a Phillips, Panasonic, and Sony (I was determined to get brand name this time) -- while he wandered off to help someone else. (He said he trusted me.) By the time he came back I was still undecided. The discmans I held looked like they would do the job (high skip protection, radio included, remote, and MP3) but they were not aesthetically pleasing (read: ugly.) John, sweet boy, suggested I dig around some more until I was happy. So I look, I dig, and in one of those magical life moments, a red gleam hit the corner of my eye.
Hmmm...an RCA discman.
180 seconds skip disc protection!!
It's not gigantic!
Radio!
MP3!
It doesn't include the frickin' car adaptability I don't need or want anyway!
I drool over it while John quietly adds my other three possibles to the reject pile.
"John," I say, "I'll marry you."
OK, so it didn't go exactly like that. But I am very happy with my RCA discman (with digital display, remote control, and snazzy clip on ear-sets).
The price was also lower than Best Buy's comparable (yet not quite as lovely) discmans!
After my purchase I zoomed home. Time for:
Aunt Marie's birthday dinner.
We ate at Bancheros. I ordered breaded turkey cutlets. I forgot to reject the dinner offer, which meant I was served minestrone, french bread, garlic bread, antipasta (salami, ham, olives, cauliflower, pineapple, pepperoncini), oil & vinegar salad, spaghetti, ravioli, and a very salty plate of chard -- all over the course of the evening, along with my turkey order (which came with potatoes.) Then spumoni for dessert. Entirely too much food. Luckily, I picked at most of the servings (except the ravioli which is delish) so still had room for my tasty turkey. Spumoni rocked except for the raisins.
Sunday I again slept in.
Then I broke in my discman with my usual route skate. Loverly, worth another skate. So I did my route twice.
Then I called some people but no one was home / was sick / was busy / etc. I practiced the splits again and helped my mom.
Then Dayni called and we walked to Peggy's, Lisa's, and Bayfair. I read a funny book at Waldenbooks and Dayni looked at National Geographic photographs.
Then we walked home. I told Dayni that if I were to ever start a band, she'd be my singer. She said she'd do it too. We worked it out:
Dayni: Singer
Me: Keyboard
Jen & Phil: guitars
Lisa: dancer
Louis & Jen N.: backup
Lisa would also double as our percussion section. And harmonica.
I told Dayni I would have to dress her and she cracked up. I was just being facetious.
When I got home Amy wanted to eat something.
We ended up going to SF for a little shopping. We ate at Mel's Drive In by the Metreon. She had a burger and I had a chicken sandwich which looked pink to me. Amy, though she wasn't eating, insisted it was cooked, but it looked pink to me. It was also on the dry side. My potato salad was tasteless. But all in all, it wasn't bad.
After dinner Amy had me read (edit) her final essays. They were about citizen involvement in politics mostly. I am not big into politics, but anything for Amy.
So after that we walked back to Union Square with the intention of finding Amy her secret Santa gift for work. Instead I bought a purple scarf at Walgreens because my neck was cold. Amy couldn't find anything and stores were beginning to close.
Then I drove us home.
At home, I stretched extremely well. I was soooo tired too. But I hadn't really gotten a good stretch that day, so I worked on one leg and then the other.
Today when I stretched I think there was improvement, so last night was worth it.
