Last night at the Castro Theatre two Hitchcock movies were seen, along with an in-person, live interview of Tippi Hendrin/Hendren/Hendrix/Whatever - Melanie Griffith's mom, the star of both movies.
Fun experience, a la the Paramount, where you get fancy shmancy surroundings, an organ player, a host, and an audience that laughs together, hisses together, and talks back to the characters. Only I don't think they did the free lottery prize-giveaways with your ticket. Not to mention the price was exactly 5 times higher than at Paramount.
The first movie, "The Birds," was hella funny. Witty dialogue, cheesy melodramatic looks, fake backdrops, and particularly one scene of these lovebirds in a car, you must see. We couldn't stop laughing - collectively. Especially when the tension was high and Tippi's creeping up a dark staircase to the room at the top where she hears ruffles of feathers and the lights are out and she only has a flashlight and everyone else is asleep and safe downstairs and her hand gets closer and closer to the door knob and ruffle, ruffle, and she hesitates with her flashlight and the suspense is killing us and an old guy yells out "DON'T OPEN IT!"
That was really funny.
Well you know what happens. It's a movie.
"Marnie" - not my thing.
Today I scored a free toaster oven. Can you believe it?
I just got it in my head that today I would be getting a toaster oven. So out I go, errand running here and there... and stop to browse in Jane's Consignment shop (cute place) and there I ask Jane if there's a place I could get a toaster oven around. And you know what? She has an old one in the back and if it works, she never uses it, so she might be willing to sell it. Right on. So then she brings it out, plugs it in, it looks like it's working only it's old and decrepit and the handle comes off as she's telling me I can have it for $10. Then she reconsiders, thinks $5 would be fair, and I'm thinking, that's not too bad. Then she says I can just have it! What a nice lady.
People, go shop at Jane's Consignment shop on Clement. She's like a genie.
Now Jen, my dear, what tasty Russian bakery treats would you like in exchange for some Palo Alto crumpets?
I think I might actually buy some Eggo's!
Gonna go play tennis now.
Hasta La Vista
