so......saturday night shawndra and i were bartenders for a wedding reception in brentwood. it was fun. we made a menu which went over big, because we had quite a selection of alcohol to choose from. the most popular drink was the apple tini. cosmo's also. belvedere vodka and patron tequila --- hot items. but not a single person ordered anything with blue in it, which is a shame, because i tried it (purely out of professional reasons - it wasn't blue curacao, an orange flavor, it was a fruity, tangy, very yummy other blue thing) and anyway, it was good.
for the kids we made lemonade (lemon concentrate, club soda, and a cherry) and shirley temples (cherry juice, club soda, tiny bit of lemon concentrate, and, of course, a cherry.) that party was happening. it was in a really big house and lots of people were dancing. then they all line danced, but not to country music, to something else, but it was very a la louis' wedding. ah, zee fun...
it was cool because no one seemed to know we had JUST finished bartending training.. apparently erin (from abc bartending) hadn't really expanded on that point... but aaron (the groom who hired us) and the rest of the people were pretty happy with us (not too mention, getting drunk) so it was all good. i like weddings and happy days for people.
so now i have to hop it back over to abc bartending and give them some of the $ i made (for hooking me up with the job.) :( oh well. i also have to pay a horrible library fine (OH, THE INJUSTICE).. and brush up my resume.
sunday was fun too... i met a girl, we're gonna put something up, some show/play, we're just not sure what yet. then i got a bad haircut. not toooo bad, but think t.v. anchorwomen/choppy-messy-shaggy. it's too long on the sides i think. i don't know, but this happens to me regularly. good hair cut, bad haircut. good hair cut, bad haircut, bad haircut, good haircut, etc.
then last night hilde and i hung out (i was avoiding cleaning my room) so that was fun. she made me a really good salad*. she got the recipe when she was a nanny in france. she taught me it while she made it.
ok, here you go (i'm thinking of you, amy, i'm sure you'd like this):
*i was not vegetarian last night
1 head green leafy lettuce
plain, simple goat cheese
red wine vinegar (nothing w/other added flavors)
olive oil
good quality dijon mustard
salt & pepper
hardboiled eggs (1 or 2)
crispy bacon, don't forget the bacon! use real bacon, not bacon bits. cook it in a frying pan to make it crispy. hm.. lisa should like this too, but she'll have to take lactaid i guess.
think that's everything...
you have to do the measurements based on how many people you're serving.
so what you do is put a silverware-sized spoonful of the mustard in a large-ish bowl, stir it with a little bit of the red wine vinegar until that's mixed, add salt and pepper to that, then add the olive oil 'til it's a light consistency.
in the mean time, you're cooking the bacon 'til it's crispy and boiling the eggs
(i keep re-editing because i'm forgeting things. don't forget to pat dry the bacon before you chop it so it's not super oily.)
now add the lettuce you've broken up to the bowl, then chop the crispy bacon, add that, add hardboiled egg slices, and some small squares of the goat cheese. then you mix it all up. i forgot - before you add the lettuce, make sure the dressing is stirred or it starts separating.
it's really really good but only lasts for 1 day.
we've decided to call it "Hilde's Simple French Salad," so please, if you serve it to anyone, give credit where it's due.
all right, bye everyone
