I'm back from an awesome trip! It was truly wonderful, & I loved it. I went to Washington DC for a cancer/nutrition symposium, and for a bit of exploring and I didn't want to leave. The symposium was great and I'm a sucker for the weather out there. It wasn't horribly hot, just mild and lovely. By the way, rent a bike if you go out there. You'll kill yourself if you walk to explore the Mall. (The Mall is where the monuments and Smithsonians are. It's huge. RENT A BIKE.) I did and I hit everything! Also I did a bike night tour and that was great too - got my bearings so Sunday I knew where I wanted to return to on my own. I met up with my mom's friend's daughter, Sara, and she's a cool kindred-spirit type person. I hate when I get back from a trip and all that's ahead of me is a lot of chores and putting-of-stuff-away. I'm in that spot right now and I really just want to be back there exploring more and hanging out.
I'll settle for a hot shower and lounging around the Inner Richmond some more. I'm savoring the feelings of inspiration I've had since Saturday. Pics will come but please be patient. You know me. I be lazy on certain levels. Also, sorry but didn't buy many postcards and not much time to find a post box either. So I'll try to send the few out I have but they'll only have a mere SF stamp on them, not DC. Sorry.
Oh! And I missed my first flight on the way home! I slept through my alarm. What happened was I never brought my traveling alarm clock because I thought that obviously the hotels would have one. They always do. So of course every hotel I've ever stayed in in my life has had one, but not the Motel 6 in Laurel, MD. No problem, thought I. I'll just set my cell phone alarm for 4 am and plug in my cell phone on top of it and keep it near the bed - I'll be fine. Well, I was not fine. I woke up around 6:30 am (how? I ask you, how?) and started freaking out. My plane leaves at 6:59 am. 6:59 am, I kid you not. I wonder who thinks up what times planes should leave and what they have against round numbers. Anyway, as I was saying, I was late. I get to the airport and to the correct counter at 7:51, so Northwest kindly reschedules me and I don't have to pay anything! YAY!! Later on I decided to find out what went wrong with my cell phone alarm so I did a test and the alarm buzz is the sounds of birds chirping. Quietly chirping, even on the loudest setting (which it was on.) Any wonder why I slept through it? NEVER AGAIN! Although it was cool paying a cheaper price and not having to get up at an ungodly hour unwittingly.
Instead of going to Memphis I went through Detroit. Great airport! Lots of eating choices, clean, and good looking. I only saw the Northwest part of it, but definitely beats SFO in decor.
Anyway, no one cares about that - suffice it to say, I had a great time and I'm so glad I went!
Love,
me

Sounds good! Can't wait for photos.
I'm glad that you had fun AND that you weren't charged extra for having to change your flight home.
oh, and one more thing. What's up with your alarm clock sounding like birds?? I have mine set (loudly) to the most annoying one my cell phone provides.
I dunno. I thought it would be set to the phone ringing or an alarm sound - I didn't even think to check.
