I really like that donate grains of rice site. I seem to hover around the 40s (level) and then they throw in words I've never heard of before. Once in a while I find a harder one I know, like "ibex" (wild goat) because of the great book I just finished (thanks Amy) - Three Cups of Tea. It's about Greg Mortenson, mountaineer-turned-humanitarian, who's been building schools in Pakistan for over a decade. Maybe 2 decades. Quite an inspiring story. I have to add his charity, CAI (Central Asia Institute) to my carolinks if I haven't already.
Back to ibex. That's not a word that exactly sounds like "wild goat." If I hadn't happened to have read the Mortenson book I wouldn't have gotten it.
Sometimes I cheat (shhh) and use the online dictionary, or else just muddle through and when you get it wrong they put it back on again so you have a chance to learn it (they always give you the correct answer.) It's really fun. I should write down all the words I don't know so I can learn them.
When I get a minute I'm going to find out just how much the grains of rice really amount to, eating-wise.
I notice you can also learn foreign language vocabulary. An exceedingly useful site.
Hope everyone enjoys their first weekend of 2009.
