My Phone is Out of Commission

Is that how you say it?

I caved* and bought myself an unlocked phone from Buy.com, where I found it discounted. Best Buy was not the best buy, so it always saves to shop around ;) But at least I got to see some choices and hold it in 3D rather than trying to picture the size/weight etc.

The New Phone

That is not my hand. I stole this picture.

I ordered it this weekend and paid for 2nd Day shipping (discounted and need the phone before my trip) and received it today! Yay!

I've already moved my sim card but the phone is charging, so no phone until I can verify that everything's ok.

Weird warning in the User Guide about not using an imitation battery. This is deeply hidden in small writing in the middle of the book, after the instructions in the very front tell you to load your sim card and the battery and charge it up. So I was worried about it but at least my hologram appears authentic. If you're unsure, you're supposed to take it to a specialist, who can tell whether or not the battery is a fake. Woooo, a specialist.

I like it but I need to get some protective case for it, or make one. This baby is just asking to get broken.

*The sad saga of my old phone:

I love my old phone. It's small, hardy, cute, has a camera, easy to see and press buttons, and just not made any more. It's smaller in size (not in chunkiness) than the new phone, but this new one is pretty thin, just a bit longer. Oh well. I tried. They just don't make tiny phones any more. What happened was I dropped my phone and the sound got wacky.

I forgot to mention why I had to get an unlocked phone - I have a great deal with AT&T so I didn't want to lose it and start over with less minutes or higher costs. The plan expired a while ago and I'm month to month, which is how I'd like to keep it. But it seems I have to do the whole phone book overhaul - lots of common numbers were apparently saved to my phone, not the sim card. Bit of a project.
