Carolyn, the Buddhist

I decided to become Buddhist in that I won't be hurting other creatures as much as possible. The exceptions are those that hurt me or others, such as mites on a pet, parasitic worms, etc. This came about because I killed a flea today (well, yesterday, it's 3:30 am I have insomnia ~ and yes, I said a flea) that I could have let live if I hadn't been so lazy. So.. guess I'm feeling a little flea killing guilt. I think I'm more super aware of the difference between a little speck of life in the world and a smooshed mess on my desk than your average person (er, non-Buddhist, heh).

I don't and won't really claim to be any more "Buddhisty" than that though. "That" being the aspect of not harming other creatures...

(Did I mention I have insomnia? I did sleep until about 2 am.. I'm just going with my awakeness here.)

Another reason Buddhism appeals to me is because they are into meditation, which I like to attempt on occasion. I also think the School of Phenomenal Memory lessons have aspects of meditation in them, by how they force your mind to get better at visualizing, concentrating, and focus.

Hope everyone's enjoying life. I'm making lists of stuff I want to do (eventually) and stuff I want or need to buy (mostly comfy shoes at the moment, and a dress for Phi & Amy's wedding.)

I'm really happy that 2 of my friends are getting married (to each other I mean). Super cool.

By the way, I'm remembering that Edison didn't sleep much also and used to poke his employees who slept on the job. (OK, so I don't remember that, I remember reading that.) I also remember reading that vegans need less sleep for some reason. Gone are my college days when I'd sleep away an afternoon. Although I do go to bed earlier these days.

I'm feeling OK though and I have all weekend to catch up on any sleep I'm missing.

I'm going to do some studying and stuff like that, try to be productive. If I feel a bit more tired, I'll crash.

What's interesting is I also read recently that your body shoots out certain chemicals inside you having to do with whether it's dark or light around you. Darkness ~ sleepy, Light ~ awakey. So I'm probably not helping by confusing my body there.

I'm even taking a free sleep course with my health insurance. Just haven't read any of it yet. I kinda just want to do other productive fun stuff I'm interested in with my new found hours.

I could've really used this lighter sleep schedule back in college and high school.

Semi-drowsily yours,
C
