Happy

World Vegetarian Day

I had a good weekend. I went to the World Vegetarian Festival in San Francisco. It was great. I heard and saw some of my favorites in the vegan movement -- Dr. McDougall, who I can credit for turning me vegan, Dr. Esselstyn, whose life's work (among others) I highly respect, and Howard Lyman, a 4th generation cattle rancher-turned-vegan and sustainable agriculture activist, just to name a few. I also met like-minded people. Did you know there are more crazy people like me out there? We all converged in SF this weekend. It was fun, and lots of good food and music too. I also got a cool present for someone but this person will have to wait until winter to see what that's all about.

Also, I went to the Chabot Space and Science Center Saturday night. That was fun! The planetarium show was excellent -- almost better than shivering outside to see the real thing. (Almost!) We also met this engaging telescope guy who was a wealth of info but explained it in layman's terms. He had a high-tech telescope. He'd punch in the number or name of the star or whatever we wanted to see and his telescope would start moving. So cool. He also had a laser light to point into the sky and show us things. If you ever want to get some perspective on the problems in your life, look into astronomy and start pondering what you learn. It's hard to even fathom -- we saw another galaxy (or something) that was something like 23 trillion light years away. That's 186,000 miles a second for a full year times 23 trillion years. That means it took the light millions of years just to reach our eyes, so what we were seeing was lightwaves being sent out millions of years ago.* Mind boggling.

I added some new sites to my carolinks about all this, just to make sure no one would be left out. :)

*This whole section may be entirely wrong mathwise because remembering numerical details is not my forte. However, it's very close because I distinctly remember 186,000 miles per second, and 23 trillion..........hm.
